Anti Bullying Program

Our commitment to your child’s safety

At Castlemaine Secondary College, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where all students can learn and thrive. Bullying is not tolerated, and we take all reports seriously. Our approach focuses on prevention, early intervention and supporting all students involved.

What is bullying?

Bullying is repeated behaviour that intentionally harms, intimidates or distresses another person and involves a misuse of power. It can occur face-to-face or online.

Bullying may include:

  • Physical harm or threats
  • Verbal abuse, insults or name-calling
  • Social exclusion or spreading rumours
  • Cyberbullying through social media, messaging or online platforms

Bullying can also involve discrimination related to race, gender, disability, religion or sexual orientation.

How we work to prevent bullying

We take a proactive, whole-school approach to prevention by:

  • Promoting our values of Aspiration, Respect and Empathy
  • Teaching respectful relationships and social skills
  • Providing wellbeing programs and support services
  • Training staff to recognise and respond to bullying
  • Encouraging students to report concerns early
  • Working in partnership with families

What to do if you are concerned about your child

If you believe your child is experiencing bullying, or may be involved in bullying behaviour, please contact the school as soon as possible.

Your child’s Year Level Leader is the first point of contact. You can also contact the school office on 5479 1111.

Early communication helps us respond quickly and effectively.

How the school responds

When bullying is reported, we will:

  • Investigate the situation thoroughly and sensitively
  • Support students who have been affected
  • Work with students to address the behaviour
  • Apply appropriate consequences if necessary
  • Monitor the situation to ensure the behaviour stops

Our goal is to stop the behaviour, support student wellbeing and restore positive relationships wherever possible.

Supporting your child

Parents and carers play an important role in prevention. You can support your child by:

  • Encouraging open conversations about school and friendships
  • Listening calmly and reassuring your child
  • Encouraging your child to seek help from staff
  • Contacting the school if you have concerns

Working together helps achieve the best outcomes for students.

Working in partnership

Preventing bullying is a shared responsibility. Castlemaine Secondary College values strong partnerships with families to ensure every student feels safe, supported and respected.
