Sub-School Model

Sub-School Model

At Castlemaine Secondary College, we are committed to creating a school environment where every student feels known, supported and inspired to achieve their best. In 2026, we are proud to introduce our new Sub-School Model, designed to strengthen student wellbeing, deepen relationships and enhance learning outcomes across all year levels.

Our Sub-School structure places students at the centre of their educational journey, ensuring consistent care, stronger communication and more targeted support at each stage of adolescence.

A More Connected and Supportive School Structure

Junior Sub-School (Year 7)

Starting secondary school is an exciting step, and our Junior Sub-School ensures every student feels welcomed, safe and supported from day one. With a strong focus on building relationships, establishing routines and developing essential learning skills, we help students settle in quickly and grow in confidence as they begin their secondary journey.

Middle School (Years 8 & 9)

In Middle School, students continue to build confidence while becoming more independent learners. These years are about discovering strengths, exploring interests and developing resilience. Our dedicated staff work closely with students to support their wellbeing, encourage positive choices and help them take increasing ownership of their learning.

Upper School (Years 10 & 11)

Upper School is a time of growing focus and future planning. Students begin exploring and preparing for their senior pathways, including VCE and VCE VM options. With increasing academic challenge, they build strong study habits, develop independence and receive guidance to make informed decisions about their future learning and career directions.

Senior School (Year 12)

Year 12 is an important and exciting milestone. Our Senior School provides personalised support as students complete their VCE or VCE VM pathway. With a strong focus on academic success, wellbeing and future planning, we work closely with students to help them stay confident, organised and prepared for life beyond school.

Why the Sub-School Model?

The 2026 redesign reflects our commitment to ensuring all students experience:

  • Stronger relationships with a consistent team of teachers and leaders
  • Earlier intervention and greater support through clearer wellbeing pathways
  • Improved communication between school and families
  • Aligned teaching practices within each developmental stage
  • Safe and calm learning environments, supported by SWPBS, BSEM and SWIM
  • A heightened sense of identity and belonging at each year level

This model enhances our capacity to respond to students’ developmental needs and to support them in achieving personal and academic growth.
