Sub-School Model

Sub-School Model

At Castlemaine Secondary College, we are committed to creating a school environment where every student feels known, supported and inspired to achieve their best. In 2026, we are proud to introduce our new Sub-School Model, designed to strengthen student wellbeing, deepen relationships and enhance learning outcomes across all year levels.
Our Sub-School structure places students at the centre of their educational journey, ensuring consistent care, stronger communication and more targeted support at each stage of adolescence.

A More Connected and Supportive School Structure

Year 7 & 8 – Junior Sub-School

The Junior Sub-School provides a nurturing and structured environment as students transition into secondary education. With a strong focus on belonging, routine and foundational skill-building, students develop the confidence and positive habits needed for long-term success.

Year 9 & 10 – Middle Years Sub-School

The Middle Years Sub-School supports students as they begin to explore pathways, experience greater independence and take on more complex learning. Dedicated leadership and staff help students refine their strengths, build agency and develop the learning habits required for senior secondary success.

Year 11 & 12 – Senior Secondary Sub-School

Our Senior Secondary Sub-School provides specialised support to help students excel in VCE, VCE VM and VET pathways. With a focus on academic achievement, wellbeing, career planning and personalised guidance, students are well-prepared for life beyond school.

Why the Sub-School Model?

The 2026 redesign reflects our commitment to ensuring all students experience:

  • Stronger relationships with a consistent team of teachers and leaders
  • Earlier intervention and greater support through clearer wellbeing pathways
  • Improved communication between school and families
  • Aligned teaching practices within each developmental stage
  • Safe and calm learning environments, supported by SWPBS, BSEM and SWIM
  • A heightened sense of identity and belonging at each year level

This model enhances our capacity to respond to students’ developmental needs and to support them in achieving personal and academic growth.
