Disability Inclusion
Disability Inclusion
At CSC, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student is known, valued and empowered to succeed.
Within our sub-school model, students with diagnosed disabilities and additional learning needs are supported through the implementation of classroom-based adjustments that cater to the needs of cohorts and individual students. This includes strategies implemented at a whole class level, or the use of individualised adjustments and programs.
We work in partnership with families to ensure students receive the right support that promotes academic growth, independence and wellbeing.
At CSC, we have a Student Support Leader and a Student Support Liaison who work with our Leadership team, Teachers, Education Support staff and Wellbeing team to implement classroom-based strategies that support the needs of diverse learners across our College. The Student Support team also provides wrap-around support to students and their families who access Disability Inclusion Tier 3 funding, and oversee the implementation of Special Exam Arrangements.
Having the Right Support in Place
Classroom-based supports are tailored to each student’s needs and may include:
- Differentiated classroom instruction
- Reasonable adjustments to curriculum and assessment tasks
- Modified workload or extended time for tasks
- Alternative assessment formats where appropriate
- Participation in intervention groups that support academic or social-emotional learning growth.
- Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Student Support Groups (SSGs) for students who require a significantly individualised learning program.
Support Strategies for Students with Additional Learning Needs
To support our students with ASD, ADHD and other diagnosed disabilities or learning difficulties, we implement whole class strategies that benefit the needs of all diverse learners.
These include:
- Clear routines and structured classroom environments
- Visual schedules and explicit instructions
- Breaking tasks into manageable steps
- Movement or sensory breaks
- Flexible seating options
- Support with organisation and time management
- Access to quiet or low-stimulation spaces when required
- Teachers and Education Support staff collaborate to implement strategies that support engagement, emotional regulation and learning stamina.
Wellbeing and Collaborative Support
Students may also access:
- Education Support staff in classrooms
- Student Counsellors and Mental Health Practitioner
- Liaison with external therapists or specialists
- Ongoing communication between school and home
- The development of a Disability Inclusion Profile for students with significantly individualised learning programs in place
Our approach is strengths-based, focusing on each student’s abilities while providing the scaffolding they need to thrive and access their education on the same basis as their peers.
At CSC, inclusion is not a separate program — it is embedded in our culture. We believe every student can experience success when the right supports are in place.
