Teaching and Learning

School-Wide Instructional Model (SWIM)

Our School-Wide Instructional Model (SWIM) provides a consistent, evidence-based approach to teaching and learning across our entire school. SWIM ensures that every classroom reflects high expectations, strong instructional practice, and a shared commitment to student growth.

SWIM creates clarity and consistency by:

  • Establishing common instructional practices across all year levels
  • Aligning curriculum delivery with evidence-based strategies
  • Supporting teachers through collaborative planning and reflection
  • Ensuring every student experiences high-quality teaching, every day

High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS)

SWIM is grounded in the High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS), which guide our approach to explicit instruction, feedback, questioning, and differentiated practice. By embedding HITS into every lesson, we maximise student engagement and achievement while maintaining clarity and structure in learning.

Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS)

Our SWIM framework is strengthened by Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS), which establish consistent expectations and promote respectful, productive learning environments. PCMS supports:

  • Clear routines and behavioural expectations
  • Positive reinforcement and restorative conversations
  • Strong teacher–student relationships
  • Calm, focused classrooms that prioritise learning

Together, SWIM, HITS, and PCMS ensure a unified, school-wide approach that supports both academic excellence and a positive learning culture.
